Product Design Firm, Maui, Hawaii

www.acmestudio.com

Position: Senior Designer

ACME Studio, Inc. is an internationally based product design firm, specializing in production of fine writing instruments, and other personal accessory products including: watches, ties, jewelry, clocks, playing cards, and many other items.

All of the designs applied to these products are appropriated or designed by world-renowned artists, architects and designers (such as: Keith Haring, Frank Lloyd Wright, Salvador Dali, Michael Graves, Van Gogh, Verner Panton, Robert Williams, Andy Warhol, Charles & Ray Eames, Karim Rashid and many more...). I have had the privelidge and pleasure of working closely with some of the worlds greatest and innovative designers, and in the process, learned volumes about the various professional methodologies adopted by industry leaders.

ACME is also involved in designing private label products with corporations and museums such as: Disney, Playboy, Campbell’s Soup, the CIA, Kate Spade, Boeing, Warner Bros., MOCA, MOMA, the Guggenheim, Mercedes, The Getty Museum, American Express, The Field Museum Chicago, The Carnegie Institute, Ihop, and many more.

My duties were varied and responsibility intensive, functioning as the head of the entire graphics department. I was involved in every stage of advertising (design, layout, and correspondence with advertising directors), catalog development, production artwork (creating factory ready artworks), trade show displays (3D displays, posters, etc.), and what we called “virtual prototyping” which involved digital rendering in Photoshop to create convincing mock ups of potential products.

Using my extensive knowledge and skill in Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash MX, InDesign, Quark Xpress and other graphics applications, I have helped ACME evolve into a major contender in the writing instrument industry. After being employed by ACME for over eight years, I was exposed not only to the architecture, design, and fine art communities/industries, but I have also gained valuable knowledge about licensing, art direction, and most importantly, completing complex tasks from beginning to end, in a timely manner.

Mantis Artworks

(February 2001 - June 2005)

Design firm and art studio

Position: Owner & Designer

Mantis Artworks was a company started by myself, after doing business as “Wreckin’ Eyes Graphics” for a number of years. It was a new start on an old concept. Mantis was involved in many aspects of commercial artwork: graphic design, illustration and fine art.

Mantis prided itself in creating artwork in a wide variety of styles and genres, as my personal interests and tastes for design are far reaching and eclectic. When involved in a corporate identity project, clients had their specific vision to represent their field of work, and Mantis worked with them to facilitate that vision. Rather than try to re-invent a company’s identity blindly, to conform to the designer’s limitations, at Mantis, the educated research of our client’s “world” really came into play. What are other companies doing? And most importantly, what are they doing wrong?... How can it be done better?

Mantis was also involved in product design. Licensing designs that are currently in production - on a pen, for ACME Writing Tools, and on a champagne glass for German glassware company Ritzenhoff (www.ritzenhoff.de). Mantis was constantly coming up with new designs and proposals of all types to product manufacturers.
